New principal at Lake County Elementary School
Dear LCES parents and community,
I hope this finds you enjoying this wonderful Leadville summer. While it is hard to believe, the new school year is approaching quickly. We are looking forward to the new school year and are excited to announce our new Principal for our brand-new Lake County Elementary School. One of our very own, Mrs. Katie Pongrekun, has accepted the position of PK-2 principal for the 2021-22 school year. Katie’s love for Leadville, background in literacy, and success in the classroom will be a great addition to an already amazing team.
Mrs. Katie Pongrekun has most recently been serving our district as the English Language Arts teacher at Lake County High School and in leadership roles such as Instructional Leadership Team across the district. She has also served in the English Language Arts position at Lake County Intermediate School which provides her with a lens of the student progression experience for our students. Additionally, she brings experiences in education from positions held in South Dakota, Arizona and Nevada.
Mrs. Pongrekun has expressed her excitement in stepping into this role and the privilege of getting to know each of you even better through the upcoming school year. Mrs. Pongrekun is supported by her husband and two children who attend Lake County schools. Mrs. Pongrekun’s passion and drive for seeing success for our students is contagious and will serve our community well.
Please save the date for our August 6th Open House to view the new Lake County Elementary School and meet Mrs. Pongrekun. More information regarding this event will be announced by the district in the coming weeks.
Sincerely,
Bethany Massey
Superintendent
Lake County School District
