Inclement Weather Consideration for Jan. 6th
Parents/Guardians of LCSD Students,
As a winter weather advisory has been issued for Lake County for this evening and into the morning hours we believe it is a good time to remind parents of our process used for decision making and communication of changes in school operations.
In the event of inclement weather, school district staff meet with Road and Bridge during an early morning call to assess current weather and road conditions. This evaluation considers many factors including: forecasted duration of the storm, quantity of snow predicted, wind and temperature conditions, precipitation, power outages and other impacting factors. In the event an assessment by this team results in the recommendation for a change to school operations, we will issue a parent notification at 6AM through our alert system. Potential school changes may be procedural changes such as (but not limited to) two hour delay or school cancellation.
Knowing that tomorrow’s storm is forecasted to clear by 10AM, a decision for tomorrow might consider a two hour delayed start which would be communicated by 6AM. In the event that schools will operate as usual, no communication would be sent.
Although we do our best in making the decisions on changes to school operations we recognize there is often no easy or perfect decision. For that reason, we encourage parents to make decisions for their families as they believe best.
If we do make changes to school operations for tomorrow, we will send a text and email alert message tomorrow at 6AM.
Thank you,
Lake County School District
