Cross Country Girls Take 2nd at State!!
Lake County’s girls’ cross country team finished 2nd at State last year, but only one of those runners returned as part of this year’s team. Despite so many new faces, the team demonstrated its depth by finishing in the same position at today’s State Championship! The top 4 Panthers kept pretty close together through much of the race. In the final mile, sophomore Chloe King pulled away to finish 11th overall with a personal best time of 20 minutes 22 seconds. Senior Tal Sheleg ended up 15th in 20:47, senior Indigo Olsen took 17th in 20:54, and junior Aimee Lenhard, the final scoring athlete, placed 20th with a time of 20:59. Freshman Finnley Stanek ran 22:19 for 37th place, and sophomore Lyza Zoller finished 42nd in 22:25.
Heritage Christian defended their title with a score of 25. Lake County ‘s score was 54, 11 points ahead of 3rd place Ridgeway.
The boys’ team, who didn’t qualify for State last year, took advantage of today’s opportunity to turn in several personal best times. Sophomore Jude Peters cut a second off his personal record (PR) to finish 70th in 18:47. Junior Jaren Peters placed 83rd with his time of 19:03. Senior Raymond Harvey set a PR of 19:06 to take 87th. Matthew Wilson, another senior, beat his PR from his sophomore year, running 20:13 for 122nd place. Freshman Wilson Anderson took 135th in 21:55, and junior Henry Greene cut over 1 minute off his PR to finish in 22:49 and 140th place.
The boys ended up 19th as a team.
