STATE CHAMPIONS!!
Lake County High School has 2 new individual state champions after the CHSAA state Nordic skiing championships this week! Sophomore Ella Bullock dominated the competition, winning the skate 5k by 31 seconds on Thursday and the classic 5k by 28 seconds on Friday. After a bronze medal performance in the skate race, senior Jace Peters left the competition behind in the classic race to win by 26 seconds.
Juniors Brynna Lenhard and Josiah Horning also had breakout performances at state. Lenhard took 8th in the skate race and 5th in the classic race and joined Bullock on the First Team All-State team. Horning placed 11th in skate and 6th in classic to earn Second Team All-State honors.
Bolstered by a 13th place finish from junior Clara Kirr, the girls’ team won the classic race over Battle Mountain High School. That victory avenged the 2nd place finish they had to Battle Mountain in the skate race.
Freshman Jaren Peters finished 19th in the classic race to give the boys’ team a 2nd place finish in the classic discipline after their 4th place in skate.
Lake County coach Karl Remsen was named Nordic Coach of the Year.
On the alpine side, senior Rowynn Slivka was named to the All-State slalom team.
Ella and Jace are 2 of 4 Lake County athletes who will compete at the Junior Nationals Nordic Championships in Fairbanks, Alaska in March. You can support these Panther athletes at https://gofund.me/636e7f43
