Knowledge Bowl Team Takes 2nd at State!

Faith Pongrekun, Leonidas Littlepage, Merritt Baker, Jaren Peters, Grace Bunch and Jude Peters proved that they are some of the most knowledgeable high school students in the state at the Knowledge Bowl Championships held at Aims Community College in Greeley on Monday and Tuesday.
Over the two-day competition, the squad competed in 2 written and 9 oral rounds testing their knowledge in a wide range of subject areas. The Panthers started hot and held a top 3 position among 2A schools most of Monday. After a slow start on Tuesday, the team fell to 5th place, but they finished the morning with 2 strong oral rounds and edged out Telluride by one point to return to the top 3 and get a spot in the final championship round.
The oral rounds throughout the competition were a mix of classifications, but the championship round pitted the top 3 2A schools head-to-head against one another. Colorado Early College Inverness held a solid lead going into the championship round, and they answered an additional 18 questions to seal the win. Byers entered that final round with a 2 point lead over Lake County, but the Panthers bested them 12-7 to earn the overall 2nd place trophy.
No one will graduate off Lake County’s team, so they’ve got their eyes on the top spot for next year. Coach Jamie Peters gave the scholars 2 days off and then they’ll return to studying for 2025!
