LCHS student protest leads to students leaving campus
Today, March 10th, at 10:30 AM, a peaceful student protest was held at Lake County high school. A written document by student organizers of the protest provided a rationale for the walkout related to unfair punishment and treatment of our Latino community within the school related to discipline practices. At 10:50 AM many students who had attended the protest walked out of the school building. As student safety is a top priority for LCSD, the school informed parents through text/email that their child(ren) may no longer be on campus.
It is a priority of our school board and district to create a safe and welcoming environment. We will first work to understand the concerns being expressed and what next steps we may consider. We will also work to ensure our hallways are safe and conducive to learning for all students. As always we thank our students and families for their support of our schools.
