Update for LCHS families regarding safety concern
Dear LCHS Families,
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigated a rapidly evolving safety issue today. While this is far from how we wanted to start the school year, student safety is our top priority. As a parent of an LCHS student myself, I know you have questions and concerns. Here are some things you might have questions about:
- What happened and is there still a threat? We are working on a joint statement with Leadville PD that we will publish as soon as we can. It will include as much information as we are able to release. Law enforcement does not believe there is any threat to our schools at this time.
- What happened with student cell phones? Once the lockdown was lifted, LCHS staff went around to each classroom and unlocked student phones so that students could communicate with parents. Students had access to their phones within 30 minutes of the lockdown.
- What is the plan for tomorrow? We believe normalcy is critically important at this time. School will operate as normal tomorrow. Extra mental health support will be available to our students.
Please watch for the statement when we are able to release it. We very much hope to see your student back at school tomorrow for another try at the first day of school. We are strong and we will get through this together.
Go Panthers!
