LCSD Graduation ~ June 5th!
Thanks Leadville/Lake County!!
Once again this year LCHS and especially our seniors are grateful to our community and their support. That sense of gratitude is shared among the very first senior class from Cloud City High School! Senior scholarship night saw the usual support for Lake County graduates that continues to surprise us every year. Students received over $300,000 in scholarships, many of them from local organizations and individuals. We saw each graduating senior receive $2000 from the Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation! Even for those of us who have seen this night many times, it fills us with gratitude for our amazing students and their amazing plans as well as gratitude for our community and their support for students and their goals.
Also, we are grateful to the City of Leadville for getting the seniors’ photos up in town to celebrate them during the month of May. We started this tradition last year and Mayor Labbe and Sarah Dallas really pushed to make it happen. Several community volunteers really helped as well, led by Amy Tait. The City decided that it was a fun tradition and so they have continued it and have the seniors’ photos up again in town and we are so grateful for this fun recognition.
Many of you are probably wondering what graduation will look like this year and we wanted to share our plans. First, we will start with the Motorcade on June 4th at 5pm. Much like last year we will leave from LCHS at 5pm and head on a route through West Park. We will weave through town so folks can come out and cheer and then finish heading down Harrison. We are grateful to the City for approving this new tradition that we started last year and everyone seemed to enjoy.
This is the first year that Leadville/Lake County has two high schools with graduating seniors! Lake County High School remains the school of choice for all students in the county and Cloud City High School offers an alternate path for a small percentage of students. Together, the two schools provide a broad continuum of options for students to achieve their high school diplomas within Lake County. This year’s graduation ceremonies will combine graduates from both schools and will be in two shifts on June 5th. Shift one will happen at 9am and the second graduation will happen at noon. Students will be broken up, mainly by alphabetical order and will each be told which graduation they are participating in. In order to accommodate social distancing, graduation will not be open to the public as each student will have a limited number of tickets for friends and family. Both Ceremonies will be available to watch over Zoom in English and Spanish. (Zoom link is here: https://zoom.us/j/96252806878?pwd=VjcyWHl6dWhLZUJId3dwbFRUQVVuUT09)
Thanks so much for all the community support for our students during this challenging season in education. We are proud of them and grateful for our community.
